CMS Board Resolution Regarding NM PED Proposed Rule Change Regarding School Calendar

The New Mexico Public Education Department is proposing changes to Rule 6.5.10 NMAC, School Calendar Requirements.  Legislation was passed in the last session increasing the number of instructional hours. We can do this within our 4 day week.  The PED has decided that our kids need to go to school 5 days a week at least half of weeks of the school year.  They do NOT consider the ramifications of this to rural districts.

If you would like to share you thoughts with the PED, there will be a one-hour public meeting in Santa Fe on Monday December 18 at 1:30 pm in Santa Fe.  Several staff members and parents are planning to attend. Many thanks to them for standing up for our kids.

The public may also comment on the proposed rule change by emailing their comments to Rule.FeedBack@ped.nm.gov and referencing Rule 6.5.10.  This must be received by 12/18.

Here is a link to the resolution that the Cimarron Municipal School Board passed unanimously at a special meeting on Thursday 12/14.
