To: Parents or Guardians of children who attend Cimarron Elementary-Middle School and Cimarron High School:

Cimarron Municipal Schools is working with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and New Mexico’s Department of Health (NMDOH) because we have determined a number of  students and/or staff within our schools have tested positive for COVID-19.  

This letter is to inform you about the next steps necessary to protect your child and our community from COVID-19. Per guidance from both NMPED and NMDOH, we are required to investigate to see who had “close contact” with the staff member or student who tested positive for COVID-19.   The recent positive cases are close contacts for Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 9th grade, with possible exposure to others as well, and in addition to the PreK exposure previously identified.  Due to the number of close contacts, and further possible exposures, we will be moving into remote learning for all CEMS and CHS students for this upcoming week.  Students will return to onsite school on Tuesday, October 19.  There will be NO athletic practices or competitions for the Cimarron sites during this time.

School Materials:

Students will be able to pick up their Chromebooks, chargers, textbooks and any other materials they will need at their school site tomorrow, Monday, October 11, from 9:00am-12:00pm and from 5:00-6:00pm.  If your student lives in the valley, we can have their materials sent to the Eagle Nest School site for pickup between 4:00-6:00pm.  In order to use the Eagle Nest pick up option, you/student MUST email Mrs. Martinez at jmartinez@cimarronschools.org with a list of what they need by 1:00pm tomorrow so that it can be gathered and sent up.

Testing available:

We will be offering testing at Cimarron High School parking lot for any students, staff, or family members who would like to be tested on Wednesday, October 13, from 9:00am-12:00pm.  Anyone under the age of 18 will need to have a signed parent consent form.

In the meantime, if you or your child begin to develop symptoms of COVID-19, which are fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of smell or taste, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea please call your healthcare provider or the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-855-600-3453 and have them tested.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

Areas of the school (including buses) in which the COVID-19 positive individual spent time will be deep cleaned during this closure, as they have been each day.  . 

Breakfast and Lunch

If you would like your child to get meals during remote learning, please call Anita Padilla at (575)376-2445 ext. 103 and leave a message with your children’s names and address.  Breakfast, lunch and a snack will be delivered or you can pick up lunch at the middle school cafeteria from 12:00 to 1:00.

We truly apologize that this is what we need to do at this time, but we sincerely feel that this is in the best interest for the safety of our students and staff. Thank you for your support in these efforts.
