2020 Graduation Plans

Over the last two weeks, during the Wednesday/Friday class meetings, the senior class has decided on the following in regard to graduation:
1. There will be a modified graduation ceremony for the graduates and their families (LIMITED NUMBER; BY INVITE ONLY) held at 11:30 am, prior to the parade, on Saturday, May 23 at the CHS Alumni Garden. This will be broadcast via facebook live on our district faceboook page (Cimarron Municipal Schools, NM) for the community to also view.
2. The whole community (and all surrounding communities) are invited to celebrate the graduates during the Senior Parade. This parade will be held in Cimarron on Saturday, May 23, at 1:00 pm, traveling from the Mini Mart (corner store) to the high school on the main highway. Each senior is invited to decorate a car/truck/trailer and/or float to represent themselves and to drive in the parade. The communities and families will be invited to park on the sides of Highway 64 and honk, clap, cheer, etc. in support and congratulations for our seniors. The sneiors will travel to the high school where they will park in a line and put out boxes in front of their cars. These boxes will need to be decorated and have their names clearly marked on them. The seniors will stay in their cars or stand at their drivers' side door (6 feet from others, following social distancing guidelines). The spectators of the parade will follow the seniors in to the high school, entering from the south gate, and will be allowed to do a drive through congratulations. This allows the spectators to say words of congratulations to the seniors individually from their car window and to drop off cards/gifts into individual seniors' boxes as they "drive through" and celebrate/congratulate them. The spectators will then move through and exit the parking lot. (Note: There are permits and approvals required for the parade, which we are in the process of obtaining now. Barring any unforeseen circumstances or issues, we should have approval and be able to move forward with this plan.)
3. The community, including parents, staff members, community members from our communities and the surrounding area, are working together on a surprise to celebrate our Class of 2020 seniors. We are hoping to unveil this surprise on Wednesday, May 13 (fingers crossed).
4. As a family, we highly encourage you to celebrate your senior as well. Decorate the door of your house, put up yard signs, etc and let people know how proud you are of your senior. As people drive by, they could honk in support. Just a thought and idea. If you do decide to do this, I would love to see pictures! Please email or text them to me.

Senior meetings are held on Wed/Fri at 1:30, are on Zoom, and are held and run by the students of the senior class.
